Depending on the airline you can book a trip before renewing your passport. In most cases as long as the first and last names remain exactly the same there should not be a problem.

Your passport details can then be updated while checking in for your flight on the airline's website. It is strongly recommended to wait for your valid passport in order to avoid any potential issues.
